French New Wave cinema was a reaction to the mainstream cinema of the time – a way to break out from the constraints and storytelling limitations imposed by popular cinema.

For this BFI French New Wave season brochure, the idea was to visually capture that ‘off-kilter’ nature, with a decisively vibrant colour palette to reflect the spirit of the filmmakers and to attract a younger crowd who may not know about the French New Wave.
